Kahshahpiwi Entry Point Quetico Park Canoe Trip Route

Only two permits per day are allotted for this Quetico Park canoe trip entry point. Most routes in this area considered to be rugged but well worth the effort. From Prairie Portage, you'll travel north to Burke Lake (84 rods) and then into North Bay of Basswood Lake (2 short portages). From North Bay, travel northwest through Isabella Lake and several "no name" lakes where you'll find several short but steep portages. Your long portage will be the 185 rod portage leading into the south end of Kahshahpiwi Lake. Your reward for making the journey thus far will be Indian pictographs near the portage as well as dramatic cliffs and rock formations. You'll see a breathtaking sight as you look down the length of this narrow lake and see the cliffs and pine studded islands. Basecamp here for all species of fish or continue the route through the northeast corner of the lake into Trant Lake and into the "S" chain. 6-7 days for this loop. You may also branch out the loops in this area to reach Agnes Lake. View Map
